See linked document for full description of this hike. Hike Overview: We will hike from the campground entrance west through the campground to the trailhead at the west end of the campground. The first part of the hike is on forest trail through dense pine forest. Many old and very large Limber Pines begin to appear in the forest before we reach Limber Grove. Coming out of the forest, we enter Limber Grove with a large scattering of ancient Limber Pines on the talus slopes on the east side of Sheep Mountain. We hike close to many of these impressive trees and there are beautiful views on the talus slopes toward the north (east side of Mt. Sherman) and east. Some of the Limber Pines in the Grove are well over 2000 years old. They look similar to Bristlecone Pines which are also encountered on the hike. Limber Pines have five medium-length needles per clump on limber branches and the large cones have husky scales. Views steadily improve along the trail route. We return via the same trail.
